In 2019 my creative partner, Faith Hillis, and I designed and directed a Performing Justice Project: a youth-centered performance-building program that explores the relationship between identity and justice. Using a healing-centered approach, we partnered with a residential treatment center for young people living within the foster care system. Over the course of 13 weeks, we engaged a youth ensemble in devising an original performance that examined racial and gender justice. The ensemble’s piece, Our Voice: Imagining a New World, involved spoken word, embodied movement, and personal storytelling.

I just want to say, like, it feels powerful to say like what is being known for. Like we're actually being heard.
